Marco Goecke (CV):

Marco Goecke began his ballet training in 1988 at the Ballet Academy of the Heinz Bosl Foundation in Munich and at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague, where he received his diploma in 1995. This was followed by engagements at the Berlin State Opera and the Theater Hagen. At this theater, Goecke created his first choreography, entitled "Loch," in 2000. This was followed by several choreographies for the Noverre Company with dancers from the Stuttgart Ballet and an invitation to the New York Choreographic Institute. In July 2003, Goecke won the Prix Dom Pérignon in Hamburg with the piece "Blushing," danced by the Stuttgart Ballet. In the following years, he created numerous works for international companies such as Les Ballets de Monte Carlo, the Norwegian National Ballet, Pacific Northwest Ballet Seattle, and the Berlin State Ballet. Starting with the 2005/06 season, Marco Goecke was appointed resident choreographer of the Stuttgart Ballet, where he created his first narrative ballet, The Nutcracker, in December 2006, which was later filmed for the ZDF Theater channel. From 2006 to 2012, Goecke also held the title of resident choreographer of the Scapino Ballet Rotterdam. From the 2013/14 season, he became Associate Choreographer at the renowned Nederlands Dans Theater. From 2019 to 2023, he was associated with Gauthier Dance as Artist in Residence, and from 2019 to 2023, he was also Ballet Director of the Hanover State Ballet. From summer 2025, he will become Artistic Director and Resident Choreographer at Theater Basel.

Goecke has received numerous international awards. Of the more than ninety works that Goecke created within a few years, many are also being rehearsed by companies for which they were not originally created. His award-winning work "Blushing" found its way to the stage of the Dortmund Opera House with the NRW Junior Ballet.
